Frequently asked questions

Everything about how the service works, your data, and the plans.

Privacy & data

What happens to my PDF after I upload it?
Processed entirely in server memory — text is extracted, used to generate your summary and build the dashboard, then everything is discarded. The PDF is never written to disk, a database, or object storage. Full details: Privacy Policy.

Is the extracted text stored?
Never. Only the AI-generated summary and its structured data (account names, balances, changes, tickers) are saved. The raw text of your statement does not leave the in-memory pipeline.

What goes to the AI model?
Only the masked extracted text — names and terms you've saved are replaced with "[REDACTED]" before the text is sent. The PDF itself never leaves the server. The AI generates the summary and the raw model output is validated and stripped of links before storage.

Can DeepSeek see my documents?
They receive the masked text of each page to produce a summary, transiently. Per their API terms, they do not train on API-submitted data. We list them as a subprocessor in the Privacy Policy.

What data do you keep about me?
Your email and name (from sign-in), the AI summaries and dashboard data for documents you upload, your mask-term list, your bank account registry, and your billing state (plan + credit balance). That's it. Card details go to Stripe and are never seen by this server.

Using the app

What kinds of PDFs work?
Anything with machine-readable text: brokerage statements, bank statements, credit-card statements, invoices, tax forms, insurance summaries. Scanned pages (photos of paper statements) are recovered with OCR. Password-protected PDFs are rejected — remove the password first.

How many pages can a document have?
Free plan: 15 pages per document. Pro plan: 100 pages. The page cap keeps processing fast for everyone.

Why do my account numbers keep showing up?
Add them as mask terms (sidebar → "Terms to Redact"). Terms you save are applied automatically to every upload. Masked terms are replaced before anything reaches the AI. Case-insensitive, whole-word matching.

What is the "Bank accounts" sidebar for?
A registry where you store the names, nicknames, last-4 digits, and account types of the accounts you hold. When a statement mentions an account, the dashboard shows the nickname you chose instead of the statement name — a cleaner, more readable chart.

Why are some accounts listed but not in the charts?
The AI flags accounts as "managed" or "unmanaged" based on the statement text. Only managed accounts appear in the trend charts and allocation donuts. Unmanaged accounts (inactive, dormant, not-actively-managed) are still summarized but kept out of aggregate views — you can confirm the AI's judgment on the dashboard.

Can I delete a document?
Yes — clicking a document in the dashboard loads its detail view, where you can delete it. Deleted documents also remove their summaries, accounts, tickers, and key facts. There is no undo.

Is the AI summary always right?
No. It can misread, hallucinate, or miss details — especially on complex or heavily-formatted statements. The full extracted text is always available in the "Full text" tab so you can verify against the original document. It is a reading aid, not a record of fact.

Plans, credits & billing

What does the free plan include?
5 documents per rolling 30 days, up to 15 pages each. AI summaries, OCR for scanned pages, dashboard trends, mask terms, and bank account registry are all included.

What does Pro add?
Unlimited documents (fair use), up to 100 pages per document, priority processing, and email support. $9/month or $90/year (two months free).

How do document credits work?
Credits are one-time purchases that let a free-plan account upload beyond the 5-doc allowance. 1 credit = 1 extra document (up to 15 pages). Credits are spent only after the upload succeeds — a failed or bad PDF never costs a credit. They never expire. Packs: 1 credit for $1, 10 for $8 (save 20%), 50 for $30 (save 40%).

Can I use credits on the Pro plan?
Credits are designed for free-plan overflow and don't apply to Pro (which has unlimited documents). If you have credits and subscribe to Pro, they stay on your account.

How do I cancel?
Open "Plan & billing" in the sidebar → "Manage billing" → Stripe Billing Portal → Cancel. You keep Pro until the paid period ends, then drop to Free.

Are there refunds?
See the Terms of Service: unused credits are refundable within 30 days. Pro subscriptions: refunds on a case-by-case basis within 14 days of a charge. Email [email protected].

Do credits expire?
Never. Buy a pack during tax season, use the rest across the year.

Account & support

How do I delete my account?
From the app: sign in, navigate to your Clerk account settings (via the sign-out flow), and delete your account. Our webhook handles the deletion instantly in the database; encrypted backups rotate out within 30 days. Everything — summaries, mask terms, registry, credits — is erased.

I found a bug or the summary is wrong.
Email [email protected] with the filename and what went wrong. We can't see your PDF (it's never stored), so describe the issue and we'll dig in.

Does the app work on mobile?
Yes — the upload flow, dashboard, and settings adapt to phone and tablet widths. Long tables (tickers) scroll horizontally; drawers fill the screen.
